Diversity is a Fact. Inclusion is an Act.

Someone once asked me what they can do to be more inclusive.  Here is my 3 step approach

  1.  If you see something say something.  People do an say mean things and no one calls them out on it.  Sunshine is the best disinfectant.  
  2. Random Acts of Inclusion.  Choose someone that doesn’t look, talk, walk like you.  Connect with them face to face and figure out one thing you can  to help their in their mission, career, project, goals, etc.  And then do it.
  3.  Get feedback from someone that doesn’t look like you.  Sometimes people who don’t think they are racists or sexist are the most at risk of being blind.  From this day forward get feedback from now until forever.  We are all a little bit racists.

If you wanted something beyond that.  Something a little deeper, that will require more work.  There is a mission to change the pipeline problem.  More on this another day.
